The College Leadership Program is an initiative designed to cultivate and enhance Latina students' professional and leadership skills by fostering active engagement in a student-led steering committee. This program provides a unique platform for participants to not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also to apply and refine their skills in a practical setting. Through hands-on involvement in the steering committee, students gain valuable experience in decision-making, project management, and collaborative problem-solving.
The program is rooted in three main pillars
COLLEGIATE NETWORKING
The program provides Latina students with the opportunity to grow their network, establish a robust support system within the campus community, and create lasting connections, both professional and social.
ACADEMICS
The program promotes academic excellence by providing resources and support for students to excel in studies, fostering a community that values a balance in academics and personal development.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
The program is dedicated to positively impacting the community through volunteerism and philanthropy, with members organizing service projects and collaborating with local organizations to contribute to charitable causes.
Primary elements of the one-year program
-
STEERING ORIENTATION
The leadership orientation focuses on educating members about their specific roles within their chapters. Students undergo training covering organizational aspects such as goal-setting and annual program planning.
-
CO-CHAIR ORIENTATION
The Co-Chair leadership orientation enhances the skills acquired by members during their prior service as steering committee members. This program focuses on advanced leadership concepts, including the formulation of a vision, strategic planning, and motivation techniques to drive collective achievement of organizational goals.
-
LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
The conference provides participants with opportunities for professional development, career exploration and networking with Hermanas Unidas’ extensive network of Latina professionals.
